Working with Emotional Intelligence
By Daniel Goleman
Publisher: Bantam | Released: 04 January, 2000
Daniel Goleman's book shows, through years of research, that intelligence is much less important than other competencies in outstanding leaders. Goleman outlines numerous facets of what he calls Emotional Intelligence that make up two-thirds of the successful leader's profile.
Comments on this Entry:
I read Goleman's book some years ago, and found it an incredible insight. I could see things about myself that were in my blind side before. I was able to develop capacities that had lain dormant.
I am reading his latest book, Primal Leadership, now. I am struck by his finding that one of the primary roles of the leader is to manage the energy in the room. How many of us fail to acknowledge when the energy in the room goes negative. Leaders always sense this, and when the air gets too heavy in the room, they often lighten it with humor.
