What's wrong with this picture?

I am a member of a Lutheran Church in Oregon. I am also one of those laypersons amazed at how difficult it is to answer the ministerial call of God due to the extreme economic expense involved. If Christ had required His disciples to pay $150K or more for the three years of instruction He gave them, said disciples would not have been able to carry the ball!
I sincerely believe that more persons receiving leadership calls today would be responding if they didn't have to become so totally indebt, as most are after graduating from the average seminary. What's WRONG with this picture?

Could it be that we are more interested in building an institution than the Church?

I didn't use the monetary obstacle to decide not to go into the ordained ministry at the age of 48. I was called by God and I went...and I had less debt when I got out of seminary than when I started. Go figure! PWM
