Notes from the Field: Africa
Dr. Olaf Forster
Editor's note: Dr. Olaf Forster, founder of MDH-Africa, came from Germany to Africa in 1999. He works at the largest critical care hospital in the world, in Soweto. He came from South Africa to Emory in Atlanta for three months of research for his Ph.D. He accepted an invitation to come to the Creative Ministry Gathering in Orlando. From this gathering, Olaf received invitations to visit several cities to speak with congregations about his work. Here’s an update from Olaf.
Medical Assistance in Africa (non-profit organisation) www.mdh-africa.org cares for needy people in rural areas of Kenya. Our projects include community health workers caring for people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic conditions, a primary health care clinic in Kokotoni, a partner hospital in Malindi, mobile clinics in very remote areas, a regular week of mercy where needy people receive surgery free of charge and educational grants. Our community health workers focus on assisting people in their last stage of life, making the need for spiritual support apparent.
Two weeks ago a long time supporter of Medical Assistance in Africa informed us that he and four of his friends would like to finance the daily expenses of a new Clinic in the Kenyan village of Ramada where there is no other medical facilities.
Jesus said: "Go throughout the whole world and preach the gospel to all people" (Mark 16: 15). Our vision is to combine physical and spiritual healing by building a church and mission centre in the village of Ramada next to the new clinic. We need your support to build this centre and employ a missionary!
We also need funds to dig a well since currently women walk 12 miles to get water and it's of poor quality. In order to transfer medicines and other stock from town to the Clinic in Ramada and to transport seriously ill patients from Ramada Clinic to our partner hospital in town we need to purchase a vehicle! Any contributions towards this important work would be appreciated!
At MDH, 100% of your donations reach our projects in Africa! Costs like stationary, banking fees, stamps and our website are being covered by specified contributions. Our leaders are working in an honorary capacity. Only our nurses and community health workers in Kenya receive a salary.
Please make sure to visit our website and contact us for more information!
